 The Métis Nation is a distinct Indigenous people of Canada with a unique culture, history, and language that originated in Western Canada. Recognized in the Constitution Act, 1982, they are one of three Indigenous peoples in Canada, alongside First Nations and Inuit. The Métis Nation has a historical homeland encompassing the Prairie provinces and parts of Ontario, British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories, as well as the northern United States.
