Judge Benny Sagi, president of the Beersheba District Court in Israel, was killed in a traffic accident on Sunday, January 4, 2026. According to police and emergency services, Sagi was riding his motorcycle on Highway 6 near the Kfar Menachem area when a vehicle entered the roadway from an unpaved access path and collided with him. Emergency responders found him critically injured and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Sagi, aged 54, had been appointed president of the Beersheba District Court in April 2025 after serving as acting president. He was regarded as a highly respected figure within Israel’s legal system, known for his professionalism and dedication to public service. Members of the judiciary and political leaders expressed shock and sorrow over his sudden death, highlighting his contributions to the justice system.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. Sagi’s death has prompted widespread mourning across Israel’s legal community and among the public.
