گواهی بر اصل ایرانی واژهٔ خلیج
محمد حیدری ملایری بیشتر تأکید روی پسوند ایرانی ایج/ایگ واژهٔ خلیج داشت. اگر این واژه در سمت تنگه هرمز ساخته شده باشد، چنین مأخذی دارد:
खेय adj. kheya to be dug out
लय m. laya house, place
محمد حیدری ملایری برای جزء خَل (خال، رود و کانال وصل به دریاچه و تالاب) نام رودها و مردابهای چمخاله، سیاه خاله، آشوخاله، زادخاله، [نوخاله، تراب خاله و هِندوخاله] را از زبان گیلکی گواه می آورد و می گوید که فرهنگ برهان قاطع واژهٔ خلیج را فارسی می داند.
این می رساند واژۀ خلیج در ایران کهن به صورت خالیگ/خلیگ کار برد داشته است و خلیج صورت معرّب آن است.
