It took a little less than a year for Donald Trump to ruin our special relationship with the United Kingdom, and it’s a sad sign of how far we’ve fallen that our closest allies cannot trust us anymore.
“A Foreign Office source told The i Paper that the White House’s “America First” approach showed Trump had ‘no compulsion about screwing over allies’ and stated that the UK simply ‘cannot trust’ the current administration,” reports the British media.’
John Foreman, the UK’s Defence Attaché to Moscow until 2022, said that “trust once gone is hard to restore…If the US aren’t willing to ensure that UK secrets remain classified, then restrictions will have to be put in place. But [this is] hard when intelligence sharing is so deep and wide.”
Can you blame them? Donald Trump has spent his entire presidency lording it over our allies, treating them like America’s servants, bullying them into paying tariffs, and now raging and screaming at them for refusing to get involved in his idiotic, unprovoked war of choice against Iran.
He’s made it clear that he is willing to sell state secrets to the highest bidder and openly covets their territory, making such a determined push for Greenland that the Danes were literally moving troops there to defend against American invasion.
Donald Trump’s pure, unadulterated madness is ruining all our international relationships and discrediting the United States in the eyes of the world. Even after he’s gone, the old order will be gone with him. No more will the United States be seen as a bastion of stability whose economic hegemony and power must be respected.
How could anyone trust us again after this, when America has made it clear we’re willing to elect a demented racist pedophile not once but TWICE?
