The Fattah-2 is an Iranian hypersonic missile unveiled in 2023, featuring a hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) design for high-speed, unpredictable maneuvering to bypass defenses. It has an estimated 1,500 km range, speeds reaching Mach 13–15, and is reported to have been used in 2026, making it difficult for current systems to intercept.
Key Details of the Fattah-2 Missile:
- Type: Hypersonic Glide Vehicle (HGV) or "quasi-hypersonic" weapon designed for high maneuverability during the descent phase.
- Range & Speed: Reported range of up to 1,500 km with a maximum speed of Mach 13–15 (approx. 18,500 km/h).
- Capabilities: Capable of maneuvering within and outside the atmosphere to evade advanced air defenses.
- Development: Unveiled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in November 2023 as a successor to the Fattah-1.
- Operational Usage: Reports indicate the Fattah-2 was used in March 2026 in regional conflicts.
Note: There is also a "Fatah-II" rocket system developed by Pakistan, which is a different weapon, characterized as a guided multiple-launch rocket system (G-MLRS) with a 250-400 km range.
